I have had a Garmin Street Pilot C550 for 3 years. It still works great but the maps were 3 years old. My boss suggested I should upgrade at the company's expense. I am in sales and drive about 40,000 miles per year. I wanted a unit that would pair with my Palm Pre and have lifetime maps and traffic included. I did a lot of research and determined that the Nuvi 1390 LMT would meet all my needs. I found one on Amazon and placed my order. When I got the unit I began setting it up. Everything worked as expected except the unit would not display my phone book. I double checked the compatibility chart on Garmin's web site and assured myself that it should. After updating the software and pairing the units several times with no success, I called Garmin support.
The girl I spoke with took me through a complete unit reset and software update. She said she was aware of the problem and thought there was a patch to fix it. But after downloading the latest software again, the phone book still would not load. She suggested I return the unit. I did so and promptly ordered another one. Received it 2 days later and same problem. This time I called Garmin support and was told it was a known issue and they were working on a software fix but they couldn't tell me if the fix was a day, month, or year away. I told them that was unnacceptable. I purchased the unit because their site told me it was compatible with my phone and they knew full well it wasn't. All the while I had been looking for alternatives.
The Nuvi 3790LMT seemed to have it all including mostly rave reviews. When the Garmin tech told me what he told me about the nuvi 1390LMT, I immediately returned it and ordered the Nuvi 3790LMT. It was more than twice the price of the 1390 and so far I think it is worth every penny.
It exceeds my every expectation. For instance, my Palm Pre lacks voice dial capability, so I was shocked when my phone paired easily and I am able to voice command my phone. I was not expecting to be able to do that. The voice command works flawlessly. I have read a few reviews from people who have had difficulty with the voice command and I did too at first. But I found the reason I was having trouble and having to repeat myself was because I wasn't waiting for the voice command light to go from red to green. Once I realized that, it works 99% of the time on the first try.
The unit boots up quickly, obtains satellite signal fast, and has every feature you would want in a GPS. It is slim, and well built. The maps load quickly and look great on the high resolution screen. I highly recommend buying this unit.

Wow....AWESOME.
I cracked the screen on my old Garmin 755 so, bit the bullet and went for the 3790. I don't have a Iphone (i know i could have nav on that but Iphone doesnt support encrypted email, yet) so I wanted something slim and I liked the idea of the voice activated.
I had tried other 3D representations on other GPS, and was not impressed. THIS GPS 3D representation is very well executed. Really great for those complex interchanges.
The voice command worked very well-only problem was trying to enter a go to address from scratch...not so good.
Voice command worked well in noisy cars, even with the window down at 40 mph.
This is a keeper
